AN ORDINARY MATTER OF WASTE!

By: Ahmed M. EL NAHAS, Montopoli November 28th 2011
Few days ago, the major Italian news agencies raced to scoop on the details of an agreement signed between its new “Technical” government and the sovereign African state of Kenya.. At this point any receiver would wonder: “but where is the scoop and why the rush?”. Very good question.. Here is the answer.
The technical government that was assigned to save Italy from a disastrous “Default”, risking not only to bring Italy in a state of Bankruptcy, but also jeopardising the entire “Euro Zone” with the worst financial crack since the great depression sending millions straight to the streets homeless and jobless; I say that New government only after days from taking office succeeded to sign a long term contract with the African state by which Italy would finance the creation of a “Waste Deposit Area” in the Kenyan country side. The scoop is the nature of the subject of the two nations’ agreement: “WASTE”!
We’re talking about millions of tons of lethal toxic industrial, chemical, electronic and nuclear waste which will take hundreds of centuries to degrade, but will have an immediate degenerating effect over the health and life of hundreds of thousands of living species including humans of course, and also will have a very long time hazardous impact on the environment and consequently on the life cycle of the region, as such producing nothing but consecutive generations of sick population unable to work or produce anything, that will remain dependant upon the “Generosity of the West”.
Having said that, a “legitimate questions” will definitely find its way to a curious mind: “How many corrupt Egyptian government officials have signed such agreements over the years allowing western waste and left-overs to violate our eternally emerging nation’s environment? Why press and politics did remain silent, for decades, watching our new born children die of cancer, aids and kidney failures among other diseases? .. I am talking about out of date medicines, addictive baby milk powder, cancerous fertilizers and pesticides, genetically modified seeds for agriculture, aggressive industrial detergents as well as dyeing agents containing toxic solid residues like lead and mercury, and surely the electronic waste to produce the famous black cloud over the Egyptian Nile Delta which continuously have been passed on as the result of rice crust burning.
On the other hand “how many pharmaceutical multinationals used us as free laboratory guinea pigs to test their poisons and war games viruses over the years using the corrupt system, set for our society to function by its means, to discretely introduce such products as ‘Tested and Approved’?”.
One last question, if you would allow it to me: “When we will see all the responsible for these ‘Crimes Against Humanity’ tried and sentenced?”. At least on the Egyptian side, by identifying those corrupt officials and politicians responsible for such crimes, along with those who knew and said nothing, confiscating all their haves and those of their families, and depriving them from any future public engagements.. For ever.
They have deliberately destroyed the nation’s health, youth, environment, economy, industry and they did it for money.. Blood money.. Our blood.
Pass On The Word.
