Yesterday, most of the international news agencies did
release the following: “Great Britain
recognize Palestine as a Sovereign State as per a Parliamentary vote by an
overwhelming majority of 274 in
favour, 12
against and the abstention of the remaining members including the Prime
Minister David Cameron”!
The first reading of such event (especially now as wars are roaring in and about the
entire Middle East along with the much irritated uncovered nerves of both the
Israelis and the Palestinians) may bring some tranquility among Arab populations and
Governments. However, the British Government’s official stand cannot, and will
not, change. Britain will continue sustaining the “Peace Process” between
Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
In anyway, this vote is a step of an important
symbolic value; because it is the first time ever that a European member of the
Western Alliance, an active participant in all NATO actions around the globe,
votes for the recognition of Palestine as an Independent Sovereign State.
Sure it looks good as a significant breakthrough of
the Palestinian Return Centre (PRC) into the inner rooms of British policymaking; but not everything that shines is GOLD. My reading is
somewhat different.. I see a tactful political move to absorb the growing wave
of Arab/Muslim anger over the Western Alliance, including the Her Majesty’s
government, reluctance to intervene positively and justly in the Middle East or
elsewhere in the Muslim world. In brief, Great Britain is afraid and by such a
vote sends a message to ISIL and its potential new recruits on British soil.
The galactic irony lies in the paradox that on
November the 2nd of 97 years ago, the very same government (only then it was His Majesty’s)
promised Palestine as a “national home
for the Jewish people” through the famous Foreign Office letter, forwarded
to Lord Rothschild, urging him to “…bring
this declaration to the Zionist Federation”! The letter that came to be
known as the Balfour Declaration.

PS: Mr. Robert John, the distinguished historian
revisionist from the Institute for Historic Review, teaches us that “attempts
to review historical records impartially often reveal that blame, culpability,
or dishonor are not to be attached wholly to one side in the conflicts of the
last hundred years. To seek to untangle fact from propaganda is a worthy study,
for it increases understanding of how we got where we are and it should help
people resist exploitation by powerful and destructive interests in the present
and future, by exposing their working in the past”.

letter signed by Lord Arthur James BALFOUR.

November 2nd, 1917
Dear Lord Rothschild,
I have much pleasure in conveying to you, on behalf of His Majesty's Government,
the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has
been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet.
"His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in
Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best
endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly
understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and
religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights
and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."
I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the
knowledge of the Zionist Federation.
